London Training Contract - 2019

The training contract puts theory into practice. It’s when you move from learning about the law to actually doing it. Although the work you’ll do will often be complex, the objective of these two years is simple: to transform you from talented beginner into a professional lawyer.

The structure

We've designed the training contract to give you the breadth of experience you need to emerge as a confident business advisor. Your four rotations will include seats in our core areas of Finance, Corporate and Capital Markets, plus one other. This ensures you get the widest range of exposure to our business while meeting the requirements of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

Wherever possible, your training will reflect your interests and ambitions. You'll work on high profile deals. You'll learn from established experts. You'll take real responsibility. It's a refreshing and stimulating environment. One where your unique talents will have the space to shine, develop and make a real impact.

Training & support

From the moment you start your training Contract, you'll have immense direct and indirect support. When you start each seat, you’ll have in-depth training in that sector. This will bring you up to speed with the issues and challenges you're likely to face. You'll also have a dedicated supervisor in each seat and have regular meetings with the Graduate Development Team.

Every experience will add to your commercial and legal knowledge as you work with and learn from the people around you. You'll also have access to the award-winning Clifford Chance Academy. This pioneering resource develops innovative learning tools that'll support you throughout your career. Courses are taught by respected internal and external experts. There are even talks from clients to put your learning into context.

You'll also have a range of other people to turn to for support throughout your training contract. The Graduate Development Team, your supervisor, the Legal Support Manager, a Monitoring Partner – all will be available to act as mentors and advisors on a full range of subjects.

As part of our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our employees, we have developed the unique, award-winning Performance Optimisation Programme (POP). You will have several face-to-face modules delivered by experts in this field, which are delivered during your LPC, two-week trainee induction programme, and into the first three months of your training contract. You will also have access to a wealth of online content available to you for the duration of your training contract with us. POP is designed to help you stay cool under pressure and develop beneficial patterns of thought and behaviour which in turn will help optimise your performance and can help to ensure that you have a long and successful career with Clifford Chance. We engage with our Trainee Committee on a regular basis to ensure that the content of the POP continues to provide relevant and tailored support.
