Clifford Chance recently established a not-for-profit training programme to help the training of lawyers in Africa. Having worked alongside Counsel on the continent for many years, our partners had become aware of how difficult it can be for their African peers to access high-quality training after qualifying. While some of the biggest firms are able to send leading associates overseas for training, this practice is very expensive – and does relatively little to alleviate what's a widespread problem.
The first course took place in Nigeria in September 2013; over the following years, hundreds of junior and senior associates will benefit from Academy training across the continent, from Morocco and Ghana to Ethiopia and South Africa. Based on Clifford Chance's in-house Academy programmes, the Clifford Chance Africa Academy delivers the kind of training courses only usually available at large, international law firms.
